I have been eight days in total to two destinations. One was Foz do Iguazu to visit the Brazilian side of the Waterfalls, the other was the Island called “Florianopolis” on the coast between Curitiba and Porto Alegre.
The shot in the city centre of Florianopolis right on the Atlantic Ocean has been taken when I came back from a bus ride to the north of the Island to visit an old Fortress.
My first Couchsurfer Carola introduced me to her self-sufficiently living community in the Forests behind the city centre, Felipe, another Couchsurfer was very friendly and showed me famous surf spots and hosted me after a very sociable night out. Rafael, my third Couchsurfer, produces his own beer and invited me to go to Blumenau… Blumenau?
Well, that is a village founded by German settlers in the early 19th century. It was October and I drank German beer, ate German “Bratwurst” and saw the most German-looking Brazilians on earth at the “Oktoberfest”.
Florianopolis seems cut off from the rest of the image I have of Brazil. As the only country (after months) I needed to go to a supermarket to buy me some fruit. Cars and streets and houses look so fine, expensive and similar to the western world. I guess it is the European influence (only half true, though).
They are afraid of the World Cup. What if they do not win the final? That would mean a loss; anything apart from a win would feel like a loss. We will see…
